Wing Creek Resort

For my birthday Bren surprised me with a 3 night stay at Wing Creek Resort. Located just north of Kaslo, BC this cozy cabin, along with 4 others, are nestled along 20 acres of mountainside. When we arrived we were greeted by our host, Kevin, who was warm, welcoming, and eager to ensure our trip was everything we imagined and more. It is really hard not to smile when talking to Kevin – his smile is incredibly infectious. DSC_1556-1DSC_1562-1We stayed in a Cedarbrook Cottage which accommodates 1-2 people. (Note: Wing Creek is an adults only accomodation and they do not allow pets.)  It has one queen size bed in the bedroom, an ensuite with a tub and rain shower, full kitchen, small dining table and chairs, and a living room with a vaulted ceiling and lots of windows. Our favourite part of the cabin was the rock wood burning fireplace – we sipped wine by the fire every night we were there. Conveniently they have a snack basket and assorted beverages that you can purchase if you’d like – we certainly took advantage of this. There is also a shared BBQ behind the cabin.

The morning of my birthday I was surprised with a relaxing massage at the Falling Water Spa. Kevin’s wife, Debra, runs the onsite spa. Debra is a beautiful, generous and warmhearted soul who also gives great massages! I highly recommend squeezing one in if you have the time – it was the best way to start the day.  DSC_1651-1 DSC_1565-1DSC_1586-1When we weren’t off browsing the cute village of Kaslo or exploring other trails and scenic lookouts in the area, we spent our days reading, fishing and napping on the private beach. Kootenay lake is much quieter than the Okanagan Lake we know and love – we didn’t see one boat while we were here. Completely alone and surrounded by nature, I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend my birthday. DCIM100GOPROGOPR2557.DSC_1549-1 DSC_1599-1 DSC_1636-1 DSC_1624-1DCIM100GOPROG0112614.Debra and Kevin encourage you to disconnect from the outside world while you stay with them and so the cabins do not have telephones, TV or internet. This is always a bonus for us. I left Wing Creek feeling rested, happy, and connected (the right way). We 100% recommend cozying up at Wing Creek if you are ever in the North Kootenays.
