Motorcycle Adventure | Packing List

When we first started camping together it was all about how much stuff we could bring. We had a big truck to pack it in, so why not? We had almost everything you could think of. Rubbermaids packed full with stuff.

Motorcycle camping is more about how much stuff you can live without. Not only did we need to downsize but we needed to upgrade to lightweight & efficient gear. We did this slowly – upgrading as we needed or when we could afford it.

When it comes to the packing, we usually start by laying all the stuff we want to bring on the floor of our living room. From there, we start removing things that we think are the least essential items until we have a more manageable pile.

There really is no rule or “right way,” only guidelines. How you pack can change with the type of terrain you are riding, length of trip and whether you are going to camp or stay in hotels. The type of riding we typically do is a mix of backcountry & highway – we cook our own meals, are frequently out of cell service and sleep outside. Our packing list reflects this. Two years later and we are still make notes on what we wished we had or what we didn’t use – our list is constantly evolving. It takes plenty of trial and error – practice makes better.

Now, without further ado, here is our list from the 3 week bike trip we did of Coastal British Columbia this past summer. Please remember to use it only as a guideline – our own future packing list won’t even look the same.
